a scarf, a pair of mittens and a headband!
For fun, I challenged myself to take an acrylic blend striped sweater and a cotton/merino blend turtleneck and re-make both into a scarf/mitten/headband set.
I was able to do this in about four hours and I think the results are pretty darn cute. The scarf is 100% red/cream/pink sweater with buttons added on the ends for a decorative touch. The mittens are made up of the cream turtleneck (front, top back) and the striped sweater (bottom back, cuffs) along with a decorate stripe appliqued to the front of each. For the headband, I used the sleeves of the cream turtleneck and seam bands from the sweater. Buttons were added along the center seam band.
The striped sweater was found at a thrift store for $1.00 and the turtleneck was one of my own–well worn and saved for a project like this.
Here is the progression of cuts I made to the striped sweater:

The center cut piece was used for the mittens and various remnants were used for the headband.
To make the scarf, I sewed the sleeves to the to other pieces, making sure that positioned the cuff to be at each end fo the scarf. The scarf is five inches wide and 60 inches long.

Wishing you luck on your winter accessory creations!
