Introducing…

my first messenger bag!

I trolled the web for ideas on patterns and designs and in the end let the amount of fabric and creativity lead the way.

As a result, I don’t have a photo journal that walks through each step.  I basically cut two rectangular shapes for the front and back–saving the zipper from the suede jacket for the top closure.

I switched out the black/white checker jacket for a softer black/white herringbone from my stash.  I thought this was a nicer combination and love the flecks of color in the herringbone.

With the help of my designing upcycler Allison, I found a toggle button at a Field’s Fabric to finish off the bag.  This bag is perfect for an ipad, a book and a few other items.  I added  inside and outside zipper pockets that can hold a smart phone and other like-size objects.

I visited my daughter and her friends this weekend, hoping to get some feedback on the size and design.  The reviews were positive and they gave me design ideas for my next project.
